  1. From the DMHS info about the Municipal Building. “Many billboards lined the east bank of the Des Moines River. June 7, 1910 Councilman John MacVicar notified W. W. Moore to remove the billboards near the site of the new Municipal Building within the week, before the cornerstone ceremony. Moore estimated losses of from $500 and $600 in advertising revenues. As part of the festivities on June 14, [1910] City Landscape Engineer Ray Weirick unveiled a display of the ‘City Beautiful’ plans in the Library.”
